Dummy puppet (Wire&foam)

I have started making a test puppet to see both what kind of puppet is achievable for me to make and what kind of animation I can expect from different methods. This puppet is not meant to be any of the characters in my film.
I started making him in a workshop at uni where we twisted wire to make a skeleton. We used polymorph on the areas of the body that do not bend and any loose ends to prevent rattle. Using polymorph in this way makes it appear like the puppet has bones, preventing movement where I do not want it (or spaghetti arm prevention). I padded him out with foam and cut this into the shape of a body. To clean it up I covered him with fabric and sewed it together. On the final puppets I will make clothes for them too, but my test man does not need to be dressed.
As I have never been a keen seamstress, the seams are sort of interesting. There are also a few problems with the anatomy. The bum is the main thing as it is half way up his back when I bend his legs. Where the limbs join up there is either too much or too little foam. But all in all I think he is good for a first attempt!
I made a Dummy Gallery to show the process!
Hopefully I will have the chance to test him in front of the camera tomorrow or Tuesday. I am sure I’ll find more faults to improve then.

p.s. I really want my own personal hand-drill so I could twist wire when ever I feel like it!!! Might purchase one when I next have the chance!
